Application of a mirror-symmetric modal filter on a double-sided printed circuit board for multiple modal reservation

To increase the equipment functional safety of the equipment, redundancy is used. One promising method of redundancy is modal reservation (MR). In this paper, a new and easily implemented protection configuration with multiple MR is analyzed. A double-sided printed circuit board, in which two reference conductors are arranged symmetrically with respect to each other on the top and bottom dielectric layers between the signal conductors, is chosen as the object of study. Considered two cases to simulate failures: short circuit (SC) and open circuit (OC) at the input. The paper presents simulation results for 3 possible switching to reserve conductors: lower left; upper right and lower passive conductors. Thus, when switching to the lower right passive conductor, the attenuation is not significant, but becomes greater than before failure, and is 4.1 times the half e.m.f. In addition, a risk assessment of unipolar and multipolar decomposed pulses has been performed. N-norms were used to analyze the criticality of the decomposed pulses. The interference is shown to decompose into four pulses of lower amplitude. A significant attenuation is observed for all N-norms. This results demonstrate the high efficiency of interference protection in the new structure. It was also found that the probability of dielectric breakdown in reserving circuits is lower than in the reserved circuit.
