Multiple Modal Reservation in Flexible Printed Cables

This paper demonstrates the ability of flexible printed cables (FPCs) with multiple modal reservation to attenuate ultra-short pulses in various case types of failures. We investigate three FPC structures with different arrangements of signal and reference conductors and their number. We consider two cases to simulate failures: short circuit (SC) and open circuit (OC) at the input. For FPCl, for the two failure cases, the maximum amplitude increases when switching to the upper right passive conductor and decreases when switching to the lower passive conductor (but only at SC-50). When switching to the lower left conductor, the attenuation is maximized and is 4 times half the e.m.f. at 2.8 times before failure. For FPC2, after switching to the upper left passive conductor, for the two failure cases, the maximum amplitude increases and is 0.374 V (at SC-50) and 0.343 V (at OC-50), whereas before failure it was 0.327 V. When switching to the lower left passive conductor, the attenuation is maximized and is 3.5 times with 3 times before failure. For FPC3, after switching to the left passive conductors, the maximum amplitude, after case types of failures, decreases and amounts to 0.336 V (when switching to the lower and at OC- 50) and 0.303 V (when switching to the upper and at SC-50), while before the failure it was 0.4 V.
